DELAWARE/MARYLAND - Lots of local events are planned on Saturday to honor those who have served and those who do serve both our country and our communities. 

VETERANS DAY IN OCEAN CITY

American Legion Post 166 says it will hold its annual Veterans Day Celebration at the Post at 2308 Philadelphia Ave. in Ocean City starting at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

FLAGS FOR HEROES

More than 500 American flags are flying outside of the Cape Henlopen School District Office on Kings Highway. The Lewes-Rehoboth Rotary Club's Veterans Day Ceremony begins at 11 a.m. The keynote speaker is Lt. Colonel Marques A. Bruce, West Point Graduate. Medallions hanging from each flag are purchased to honor the heroes of people in the community. The sponsorship form can be found at flagsforheroes-lrrc.com.

VETERANS DAY IN OCEAN PINES

The Worcester County Veterans Memorial Foundation will host its traditional Veterans Day ceremony on Saturday starting at 11 a.m. at the memorial grounds in Ocean Pines. The program includes patriotic music from the Delmarva Chorus, a color guard presentation of local American Legion representatives and an address by guest speaker Col. David Cahn. 

VETERANS FAMILY FUN DAY 

An event at Courageous Hearts Farm in Lincoln features farm animals, games, and a life saving message about removing the stigma that surrounds opioid use and abuse. It runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The organization uses horses for equine-assisted psychotherapy to help veterans.

VETERANS DAY IN SEAFORD

The Seaford Veterans Committee is hosting a Veterans Day Ceremony from 11 a.m. to noon on Saturday at the Kiwani's Park on Stein Highway.

WICOMICO COUNTY VETERANS DAY

The Wicomico County War Memorial Committee's Veterans Day Ceremony will take place at the Wicomico War Veterans’ Memorial on Saturday at 11 a.m. It's located directly in front of the Wicomico Civic Center in Salisbury. The program includes patriotic music, prayer and remembrance to honor all veterans.

EASTERN SHORE CLASSIC

Another event happening at the Civic Center is the Eastern Shore Classic dog show. The Salisbury Maryland Kennel Club and Mispillion Kennel Club are teaming up to put on this event. It includes all-breed shows, obedience trials and rally trials. The event opens daily at 7 a.m. from Nov. 10-12. Admission is free.

OCEAN CITY CONVENTION CENTER

The Autumn Home and Condo Show and the Arts Crafts and Critter Fair is taking place at the Roland E. Powell Convention Center. Organizers say the home show is an expo designed for homeowners in all stages of remodeling, landscaping and decorating their homes. There will also be pet products, pet contests and adoptable pets. The event is open from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday and from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.

CLEAN-UP EVENT

The Friends of Cape Henlopen State Park will hold a clean-up on Saturday to clear brush and trash along the Gordons Pond Trail, beach and parking areas. Volunteers are asked to report at 8:45 a.m. to the Pavilion at the Rehoboth end of the Gordon Pond Trail.

SLING N' SQUASH 

The Big Chill Surf Cantina is hosting a pumpkin chunkin' event on Saturday. The 6th Sling N’ Squash Competition takes place from 12 to 5 p.m. at the bar off Coastal Highway. Organizers say competitors will throw a 15-18lb. pumpkin from a 6'x6' throwing area. Winners will receive cash prizes. 15 dollars out of each 30-dollar event registration fee will be donated to the Wounded Warrior Project. 

SAGAMORE SPIRIT COCKTAIL CONTEST 

Local artists and local mixologists are teaming up for a War at the Shore. The 6th Annual Sagamore Spirit Cocktail Contest is this Sunday at Bethany Blues in Lewes. Each mixologist sets up a space and they provide samples of their cocktails for the audience. A silent auction of artwork created by the artists and proceeds from the artwork they bring will support the artists and their materials. Bethany Blues will have food and drink specials. The event itself is free to attend Sunday at 4 p.m.

DELAWARE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA 

The Delaware Symphony Orchestra continues its 118th season with a performance of ¡Musica Bravo! featuring Latin and Hispanic-inspired works on Nov. 12 at 2:30 p.m. at Cape Henlopen High School.

HOLIDAY SHOPPES AT THE STATE FAIR

Organizers of this event at the Delaware State Fair say over 220 crafters and vendors are gathering for the annual Holiday Shoppes Craft & Vendor Show at the Delaware State Fair. Click here to buy tickets.

HOLIDAY MARKET

Southern Delaware Therapeutic Riding is bringing 60 artists, crafts people, local businesses and a new farmers' market to its Milton facility on Harbeson Rd. The Holiday Market is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is 5 dollars. The event raises money for the nonprofit's herd and riders. HARLEM WIZARDS PLAY AT CAPE

The show basketball team known as the Harlem Wizards is coming back to the coast this weekend. The world-famous team will face off a team of Cape Henlopen School District staff and local community members on Sunday at 4 p.m. The game is a fundraiser for youth programs in the district that are put on by the high school's Interact Club and the Rehoboth Beach Sunrise Rotary Club. NICOLA PIZZA INAUGURAL 5K

The Inaugural Pizza Run/Walk organized by the Rehoboth Running Co. takes place Saturday at Nicola Pizza on Coastal Highway in Lewes. It starts at 9 a.m. Registration can be done on seashorestriders.com.

STORM WARRIORS 5K 

Another run will take place on the Ocean City Boardwalk. The Storm Warriors 5K Run/Walk starts at 9 a.m. and benefits the Ocean City Life- Saving Station Museum. Register at runsignup.com.

HORSESHOE CRAB HUSTLE

The inaugural Horseshoe Crab Hustle 5K and 1 Mile Fun Walk is scheduled for 9 a.m. Sunday at Bethany Brewing Company in Ocean View. The event benefits the Delaware Center for the Inland Bays. The Center says the course will take runners and walkers through scenic Fresh Pond. The post-race party includes freshly brewed craft beers, tasty post-race fare, fresh-shucked oysters, live music, raffles and more. Registration can be done online at inlandbays.org.

REHOBOTH BEACH INDEPENDENT FILM FESTIVAL

22 films will be shown throughout the weekend for the 25th anniversary of the Rehoboth Beach Independent Film Festival. It takes place at the Cinema Art Theater in Lewes. Organizers say three indie icons will have films screened. Tickets can be purchased online at rehobothfilm.com.
